The scarcity and condition of the car are the main criteria for valuation.
Whether it is the Bugatti Royale, built in only 6 copies and is now worth around 40 million euros, or some Citroën DS as new, untouchable to less than 45,000 euros, the main criterion of gain for resale is the rarity of the vehicle. It is therefore advisable to favor small series, especially the first numbers, because they are better rated.
The general condition of the cars also comes into play, hence the need to maintain them carefully, both at the level of the bodywork and the mechanics (a market of the spare parts of old cars was created there is a few years). That said, always prefer cars that have been kept in their original condition, without any change of clutch, braking system and especially engine, which obviously assumes low mileage.
Auctions are generally very attractive at the price level.
You will not find the rare pearl at a classic car dealership. Instead, look for specialized garages, knowing that their expertise is sometimes limited to a single brand (Citroën, Ford, Renault …) or at a specific period, for example the 1960s. Vintage car: In 2008, the International Federation of Veteran Vehicles (Five) decided to adopt a new definition of “collection” vehicle, setting its minimum age at 30 years (instead of 25 years ago). The so-called collector car says advantageous taxation on capital gains, but also a rating system determining the value of the vehicle, which is estimated according to its rarity and popularity among collectors.
Classics: Name given to the most prestigious vintage cars whose sales value has exceeded one million euros.
